About

Mr Roots, founder of Morris Roots Salons, has been a Loctician for the past 15 years and opened the first Salon in 2001 at 184 Tooting High Street. Since then 3 other Salons has been opened in and around London, including the Morris Roots Academy, School of Locs. He has also personally trained over 50 employees some of whom are still working for Morris Roots and others in different Salons both locally and internationally.

Internationally acclaimed and Award winning Mr Roots has been recognised and equally awarded for his dedicated hard work over the years. He was awarded 2nd place in the 2004 World Natural Hair Show, Atlanta Georgia in the category, ‘Creative Loc Styling’.

Mr Roots has also been a guest at the White House, Library of Congress Gershwin Awards in 2009. He has been featured in different TV and radio programmes including BBC Radio 3, BBC London, BBC Birmingham, Choice FM, Ben TV, Passion TV and OBE TV.

Mr Roots has done and continues to do extensive work in places such as Africa, America, Europe and the Caribbean. He has travelled to Ghana and Kenya in search of the history and culture of locs and its spiritual significance. From the Maasai he found that locs for them was about being a warrior. For the Ashanti in Ghana, it was about priesthood while some of the older peoples’ interpretation unfortunately tends to look upon locs as a sign of vagrancy. Having said this, recently some of the younger generation are now embracing locs as a more fashionable concept.

Looking to the future, Mr Roots has spent the last 7 years developing the first ever accredited course in Hair Locing through Edexcel, the ‘Morris Roots Advanced Diploma in Loc Technology’ which has now seen the launch of the Morris Roots Academy, School of Locs. This course is geared to educate students to have a more holistic approach to hair locing. As such the units included are: Tricology for Locs, Morris Roots Loc Technology, Customer Service for Locs and Business for Locs.

Morris Roots on a whole is responsible for starting and maintaining over ten thousand clients over the years and is one of the first natural hair salons in the UK to be featured in several magazines and newspapers.

Morris Roots has worked with various high profiled clients from different backgrounds including; Soca, Reggae, Hip Hop, Jazz, Soul and one of our greatest Motown artist. Other clients of Morris Roots include Premiership and European football players.
