Notting Hill Carnival 2007
On the way to the Notting Hill Carnival 2007, Morris Roots Fun Mas ‘Locs/Natural hair’ Section. Find
the Root within You!
March 25th 2007 marked the Bicentenary,
200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade in 1807.
Morris Roots feels it is excellent to remember this anniversary,
and to find ways to reconnect with the strong ethical and religious
sense of all those who worked and organised to end the transatlantic
slave trade.
In recognition of the Bicentenary, Morris
Roots ‘Loc Up Section’ is a depiction of a prison concept highlighting
that 200 years later we are suppose to be ‘free’ from the chains
of slavery but our hair, body and soul are still in ‘prison’. “One
of the ways forward in becoming free from this ‘prison’ is
with your hair, your hair been the highest extension
of your body representing beauty”.
